An adequately prepared subsurface is one of the most important considerations when preparing for your Duradek installation. The better the subsurface, the better the result. To achieve this, our authorized installers use the recommended 5/8″ T&G untreated plywood to create the flattest subsurface possible. In addition, to avoid pooling or ponding, which can lead to premature discolouration or deterioration of your vinyl decking, a 2% slope of the subsurface is ideal.

RAILING COMPONENTS
It’s essential to seal any posts or pillars penetrating the vinyl to prevent water from getting under the vinyl and into the subsurface. We strongly recommend regular caulking and inspections of your deck to ensure the integrity of your Duradek installation. If possible, you should permanently fasten posts to the fascia. Any surface-mounted bases must be covered entirely with a waterproof membrane and clad. If you’re attaching metal rails or posts to the vinyl decking surface, you should fill the pilot holes with a sealant before inserting screws.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
To keep your deck looking its best, you need to clean it four times a year using the Duradek vinyl cleaner. It’s designed specifically for vinyl and will not harm the decking like other household chemicals. You can purchase the cleaner online from Amazon or an authorized Duradek dealer. The only other maintenance required for this vinyl decking is an annual inspection performed by the homeowner. Their responsibility is to inspect all caulking around posts, pillars, corners, vents and drains. Structures to which the vinyl decking is applied can shrink or shift, causing caulking seals to break. If you find any problems during the annual inspection, contact us, and we’ll recommend the proper sealant.
